FEAR STALKS THE LAND! We’re hot off our debut at Pete’s Candy Store a few weeks ago and are now putting on a free show on Friday on Adam’s rooftop. Party starts at 6p, music at 7p, and party til late. Come out and support!
This is actually our first ever misc. Miscellaneous. Really, this is just a monthly newsletter where we share what we’ve been listening to. Occasionally we’ll add in a plug for our shows (see above text).
One thing I’ve always envisioned misc. being is a platform for creative community. Sure, we’re a band, but, really, I want the output in misc. to be an invitation to create stuff for yourself.

Aside from working on our EP and getting ready for these damn shows, the last couple weeks, Adam and I have been developing MiscXP. XP a platform that houses our music, videos, store, and upcoming shows. But it also has a myriad of creative, albeit archaic, tools that allows users to create digital art, and soon, music of their own.
Maybe it’s a little too high brow, but I want misc. to be an entity that inspires people to get involved and make the things they want to make, even if they feel like they can’t for whatever reason (I find people get real creative with the reasons why they can’t create something, for example).
To me, this newsletter is also a part of that vision. These albums are literally what’s been on our speakers the last couple weeks. They are actively inspiring our music and performances in real time. Hopefully they’ll inspire you to create your own pieces, too.
So with the preamble ambled, here’s what’s on the misc. JBL:

lost weekend by phoebe bridgers
like the rest of the world, i've been anxiously awaiting phoebe's next move in the six years since her last album, punisher. while her first album was well-regarded, punisher is really what launched her into the mainstream, so i was nervous for her honorary sophomore slump.
now that the time has finally come, i can confirm there was no slump. this album is long as shit and there's not a song that doesn't have at least one thing that's exciting to me. "the outside" kicking off the record was the perfect way to prove to me that this thing would be jam packed with unique and complex sound design but also devastating, beautiful, haunting melodies.
shouts out my boy Son-John Johnson
-adam, the bassman

Kakashi by Yasuaki Shimizu
I’ve recently been rediscovering an oddball, all-time great album. Kakashi is a genre-bending, psychedelic trip of an album that was truly ahead of its time. It’s a great blend of organic and electronic textures from 1980’s Japan where Yasuaki Shimizu experiments with nearly every instrument you hear.
Best experienced from beginning to end in one sitting. It’s equally at home in a dimly lit cocktail bar or on a sunny beach. Kakashi and Umi No Ue Kara are the standout tracks.
-Jay, Lead Guitar
Screamadelica by Primal Scream
First time I heard this album I was working through Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list with my girlfriend, Hannah. At the time I first heard it I thought it was fine, which is to say I must have had it on in the background while brushing my teeth or some shit. Three years later I gave it a second shot from a reddit recommendation (long story) and this thing is bumpin’, dude.
This thing is packed with insane grooves and super creative rhythms. Something I’ve always wanted to incorporate more in misc. songs are complicated, fluid rhythms and this album is the blueprint for that. Get high, have a beer, smoke a cig, pop a molly, be sober, I don’t care – put this on your speakers, you won’t regret it.
-Chris, the singer

Outlandos d’amore by The Police
I love the police. The band not the institution. Crashing on the 4 instead of the 1 has never been cooler. Englishmen try reggae but I will never put beans on my toast, 8/10
-Saul, the kid (drummer)
So that’s that! Stay tuned next month for more misc. picks! In the meantime, RSVP to our show on September 18. Doors at 6p, misc. on at 7p.
Thanks so much for all the support and love at Pete’s, can’t wait to see y’all again soon. <3
